Glissando
High-set Queensland houses
peel softly in back streets.
Wind hissing through palm fronds
breathes over the green whip
of a snake crushed mid slither,
eyes blank in sunlight.
Close-shaved grassy yards
soak in morning warmth.
Sharp beaked crows flap and caw.
