There was chaos at the station

There was chaos at the station, for the word had passed around,
That our much loved soaps would not be aired that day,
And a thousand angry callers jammed the phones at channel 9,
All disgruntled but resolved to have their say.

They had sat down with their cuppas, those addicted lonely wives.
Will the soapy star's new baby come at last?
Those who want to know the answer, need to watch Days of our Lives.
Strange since the conception, fifteen months have past?

In a later soap, a tragic star, has anguish on her face
Will her true love come to rescue her on time?
Wives expect to see the outcome, when they switch on Peyton Place,
But they won't and all because of Channel 9.

There was chaos at the station, back in 1969.
There'd been ninety calls at least received since noon.
'We demand to see our soapies,' viewers hollered down the lines.
'And not that silly bugger walking on the moon.'
