time to wind the night down

two guys on the lounge room dance floor
they haven't danced in these early hours
since the swaps back in the eighties
separations ago
but here they are
flowing drink dim lights loud music and early morning
it's all strangely familiar
they share a glance that touches a lot of history
then look away

but this isn't their story

~

she is usually a giggle
talk and drink
laugh
fill the time pass the night
bubble
it's all good fun

tonight
there has been a confession
a sharing

why tonight
who knows

they move inside
into the music
a new intimacy on the dance floor
two am
back to back
side to side
an arm on her shoulder
a hand at his back
finding the pace of parallel hips
swaying in time

her hand has moved
with the music
lower

he is startled
to have to acknowledge
the caressing pressure
around the back-pocket of his jeans
the impact of such a light touch
he works harder to get the rhythm and movement
just right

starts thinking that it might be time
to wind the night down
go to bed
